NFT games have gone big lately, with Axie Infinity leading the charge this year. The explosive growth has brought in a variety of new and creative NFT games to the market. More players are excitedly getting inside the fence as new NFT games are being dropped now and then. That said, here are the biggest upcoming titles that will shake the NFT gaming space.

Ember Sword

Ember Sword

Let’s start our list with Ember Sword. It’s an MMORPG created by Brightstar Studios that will hit the Ethereum blockchain early next year. This game is built on the promise of completely avoiding all “pay-to-win” mechanics. This is what sets it apart from most MMOs and other upcoming NFT games.

Gameplay

This game starts with creating a character. The player will begin their exploration as soon as they’re ready—raiding dungeons, killing monsters and bosses, gathering loot, and much more. Players can also own a piece of land that they can build, develop, and earn from. Collectibles such as avatars, skins, and cosmetic and convenience items are NFTs that can be purchased within the game, which the players can then turn into a profit.

Each NFT cosmetic item, such as a sword, for example, will have a unique history to it. Each time the sword is used to slay monsters and bosses will be recorded on that item for everybody to see. This means that the richer an item’s history, the higher its potential to sell for a hefty price on the market.

It’s expected that there will certainly be tons of valuable NFTs in the game. But as the developers designed it, this game is all about skill and gameplay first and profit second. The progression is based on advancing or leveling the skills where each weapon has its own associated skill. So, it’s safe to say that those who choose not to spend money will never be at a disadvantage in developing their characters.

Ember Sword will be playable in a browser. The alpha version of this game will be available in early 2022, and the testing of its tech is scheduled for later this year.

Guild of Guardians

Guild of Guardians

The next one on our list is a free-to-play mobile action role-playing game (ARPG). It’s currently one of the most highly-anticipated mobile play-to-earn ARPG among the upcoming nft games. Around 150,000 players are on its waiting list, and it raised almost 3 million dollars on the first day of its initial NFT sale.

Gameplay

By playing the game, you will earn non-tradable Common Heroes. These will be in three familiar classes: ranger, warrior, and mage. You can merge these common heroes into rarer characters that become NFTs, which are stored and are tradable on the Ethereum blockchain. You can also craft tradable blockchain items from the loot you gather through the game.

Since this game focuses on teaming up with other players, playing solo might not be the best strategy. The best and easier way to clear dungeons, kill monsters, and take out bosses, is to join or form a guild. The developers promised that free-to-play players could work their way up to owning legendary characters.

A soft launch for Guild of guardians is scheduled to be out in early 2022, followed by beta later that same year.

Star Atlas

Our next game is the most ambitious NFT gaming project to date—Star Atlas. It’s a grand space exploration strategy game to challenge EVE Online. The game takes place in a virtual gaming metaverse built on Unreal Engine 5, which allows the game to feature cinema-quality, real-time environments. As for its blockchain, Star Atlas will run on top of Solana, a blockchain protocol said to be the fastest in the world. It’s currently the fastest-growing ecosystem in cryptocurrency.

Star Atlas will be built around the Solana blockchain

Gameplay

Star Atlas is set in a futuristic science fiction setting in 2620, where three galactic factions have emerged to compete for territories, influence, and resources. These factions are the Ustur sector, a collective of sentient androids; ONI region, a consortium of alien races; and MUD territory, a territory of humankind.

Space exploration will occur at the core of Star Atlas. The players will be taking part in this war for power. But it’s not all conflict. Players can also take on the role of many professions the game offers—from bounty hunter to CEO. They get to pilot ships to explore new planets, discover tradable assets, and of course, battle with other players over scarce resources.

To purchase assets, the players will use the in-game currency—the ATLAS token. But they will also be able to buy NFTs that will function as ships and other in-game equipment on the NFT marketplace.

Spaceships can also combine resources and compete collectively. This creates the so-called “decentralized autonomous corporations” that will be able to construct entire space cities with their accompanying micro-economies. The second token of this metaverse, called the POLIS token, will serve as a governance token in these space cities. It will also be used for governance decisions regarding the game.

While many games are focused on building their own economies, Star Atlas goes even further by introducing political token within the game. It will be a whole new metaverse, with its own politics, economics, and wars.

The full game is still a long way off, but it’s already turning heads. It already even has a massive following and has sold many of the top ships in the game for tens of thousands of dollars. This exciting game, however, is still under development and will take some time before we get to play it. But don’t worry. The developers will be releasing a browser-based mini-game in the coming months for you to get around with before the big launch.

Illuvium

Illuvium

Going back to Ethereum-based upcoming NFT Games, we have Illuvium next on the list. This freemium game is both an RPG and auto-battler that features gameplay similar to that of PokĂ©mon.

Yes, freemium. There are free-to-play sections that will introduce the players to the basics and allow them to set out and hunt for tier-zero Illuvials, which will be NFTs. But to access the game in all its promised glory and collect more NFTs, you will need to pay. The cost is not revealed as of today, so we will have to wait until its release. Meanwhile, the players can level off their Illuvials and sell them to another player.

One of the most highly-anticipated aspects of this game are the stunning visuals that really show off its AAA game quality. Among the upcoming projects, Illuvium is superior in the graphics department.

Gameplay

Illuvium is set on a planet swarmed with powerful ravaging creatures known as Illuvials. These are the planet’s inhabitants that have mutated by radiation. The player will be a hunter whose mission is to explore, mine, harvest, fight, capture Illuvials, and uncover the mysteries of this planet.

Players can take the Illuvials they’ve captured into tournaments. The fights will be player-versus-environment (PvE), so they’re going to be auto-battles. Both players will simply send their Illuvials to the arena then sit back and watch as they duke it out with each other. And of course, the winner will receive rewards.

The game’s original release on PC was recently moved to early 2022, with a mobile release the year after. Stay tuned with us for more updates.

Big Time

Big Time

This game is currently one of the most hyped in the NFT games space. It’s an online co-op Action-RPG developed by industry veterans who worked on AAA games like Fortnite, Call of Duty, God of War, and World of Warcraft. The developers promise unlimited adventure and some of the craziest mashups you’ve ever seen.

Gameplay

This ARPG game takes you on a history–spanning adventure across the vast reaches of time and space. Your mission as the player is to uncover the mysterious menace that’s ripping time apart. Once you’re in, you will receive your very own “Time Machine” that will serve as a personal hub where you can showcase your NFTs and hang out with other players.

Each player can choose among four playable classes with six different weapons:

the Shadowblade, a cunning “part ninja, part hacker” death-dealer

the Chronomancer, a spellcaster

the Quantum Fixer, “part field medic, part gadgeteer”

the Time Warrior, the melee hero.

You can level your chosen character up in multiple classes and change your style on the fly.

There are two types of items in the game that you can find as you go: NFTs and non-tradable items such as gameplay bonuses and gear. Since it’s a play-to-earn game, you can only find the NFTs after killing bosses. You can also rent these NFTs out to other players, use them as collateral to obtain a loan, and even sell them off as pieces.
