If you’ve been in the NFT space for some time now, the word “Ethereum” should already be familiar to you. Here, we’ll talk about the biggest NFT games powered by Ethereum, the most popular blockchain in the NFT gaming space.

The Ethereum blockchain currently ranks second to Bitcoin in terms of both popularity and market cap. More importantly, it is home to many popular NFT collections and successful games including the likes of Axie Infinity. Now, let’s look at some of these games that utilize ETH or Ethereum blockchain tokens.

Axie Infinity

This established Pokemon-inspired battle game features cute but fierce little creatures.

Free to play: No
Play to earn: Yes
Platforms: Android, iOS, Windows, macOS

We’re starting off with one of the most popular NFT games in the blockchain gaming space. Axie Infinity is a play-to-earn crypto game built on Ethereum and founded by a Vietnamese game developer, Trung Nguyen. It features adorable individually unique creatures called Axies that are bred, raised, traded, and pitted against each other in battles. Each of them has special strengths and weaknesses that are determined by their genes.

There are several categories of Axies. These include Aquatic, Beast, Bird, Bug, Plant, and Reptile. Each of them can be common, rare, ultra-rare, or legendary. To own a set of Axies, players will need ETH to purchase Axie Infinity Shards (AXS), which they can also use to vote for key decisions in the community. If you don’t have the budget to invest in Axies yet, you can always opt for a scholarship. How this operates is that managers will purchase axies and lend them to you to use. They’ll get a percentage of your earnings as you progress in the game and as long as you keep up with the terms, such as daily quotas and payout schedules.

This Pokemon-inspired NFT game has made its mark this year with a market cap that carried its name to the top. Its in-game currency, AXS, has been consistently at the top 50 list of crypto tokens. It became the most traded collection ever during the third quarter of 2021, surpassing big-time NFT collections like CryptoPunks. The developers of Axie Infinity promises to add more features such as Axie Land and Axie Battle.

Gods Unchained

Gods Unchained is one of the biggest trading card games in the blockchain gaming space.

The next one on the list is Gods Unchained, a competitive and strategic trading card game (TCG) hyped in the blockchain gaming community. Gods Unchained is a one-on-one card battling game that runs on Ethereum and Immutable-X. It’s a P2E game that you can play for free now.

Compete in this battle royale, power up your deck, topple powerful opponents, and steamroll the competition. The cards you earn from your battles are NFTs you can sell in the marketplace or use for the following games. If you’re a TCG fan, you can also hoard them by storing them in any blockchains connected to the game.

Evolution Land

Platforms: PC

Evolution Land is a DeFi P2E virtual simulation game that supports cross-chain interactions, thanks to the Darwinia Network. It’s a self-governing ecology dedicated to the operation, development, and resource integration of blockchain games.

The game is designed to contain 26 continents. Each of these continents is deployed on a different public chain. This means that if you want to participate in a community that utilizes Ethereum, you will have to join the Ethereum-based continent, Atlantis. The same goes for other continents available in the game. At the time of writing, the game supports two blockchains—one is Ethereum, the other is TRON, which runs the Byzantine continent.

As for the gameplay, the players will collect and breed Apostles. Each of them has various talents determined by their genes, with some being rarer than others. You can level up these talents through education. At some point, the players get to choose a career for each of their apostles such as a warrior, architect, miner, doctor, musician, and many others.

The basic elements in the game are fire, land, gold, water, wood, and silicon. All these can be collected by a miner apostle. Besides mining, players can also participate in in-game activities like construction, scientific research, and PvP battles. We believe that Evolution Land has a ton of potential as one of the currently-hyped NFT games powered by Ethereum.

CryptoTanks

A retro-style 8-bit NFT game inspired by the Battle City game we know and love.

Staying true to its nature, the game will feature new locations, missions, tanks, and battle modes as it develops.

The game tanks are in categories: common, rare, and legendary. It’s not free to play, but it features a Tanks rental system that works similar to the Axie Infinity scholarship. The system allows users to buy tanks that they can rent out to other players for a start and gain a percentage of their earnings.

CryptoTanks will be available soon, so check in with us regularly for updates about this game. As of now, you can sign up on their waitlist and get ready for their upcoming token sale. The Sandbox is a virtual community-driven metaverse where players can create and monetize voxel assets and gaming experiences. It’s like the crypto-based version of Minecraft. The game utilizes SAND, an ERC-20 coin you can use to buy and sell NFT assets from the platform’s marketplace, such as items and land.

Besides SAND, there’s also LAND—a virtual piece of real estate that players can purchase to build exciting experiences on top of. Players can monetize through these by allowing other players to try them out and enjoy. These could be an amusement park, an art gallery, or anything you can think of! You’re free to express your creativity. Each LAND is a unique NFT that runs on the Ethereum blockchain.

F1® Delta Time

Exquisite and unique race cars for racers and racing game players out there. F1 Delta Time might be your next favorite game to play.

Free to play: No
Play to earn: Yes
Platforms: PC

F1® Delta Time is a racing game that utilizes ERC20 and ERC721 powered by the Ethereum blockchain. It focuses on collecting and trading F1 cars, drivers, driver equipment, tires, and other racing parts. All of these virtual items exist on the blockchain as NFTs and are available to purchase in OpenSea.

The native token in the game is REVV. This is what players use in transactions, such as paying entry fees and purchasing certain items. One of the key highlights of this game that brought it to the top list of NFT games based on trading volumes is that it’s actually authorized by F1 Formula One Racing League itself. If you’re a fan of race cars and leagues, particularly this one, this game should be perfect for you. The game is still in the works but you can try playing it now in its beta phase, so you can judge for yourself.

Sorare

Who else but the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo. His unique card is still the most expensive one to date.

Free to play: Yes
Play to earn: Yes
Platforms: Windows, PC

Sorare is a fantasy football TCG where you can trade officially-licensed player cards. Players can scout their favorite real-life football players, collect their cards, manage their team, and compete in in-game matches to bag prizes every week.

A sample team of five players.

These cards have three levels: unique, extremely rare, and rare. You can sell them on the marketplace or use them in games. But if getting on top of the ranks is your goal, that will have to base on your players’ performances in real-life weekly football matches.

Within the game, you will need to have a 5-a-side team to compete. This consists of a defender, a goalkeeper, a midfielder, a forward, and an extra player to play any of these positions. If you’re a big football fan, this game is right up your alley. Check out our other post to learn more about this game.

Decentraland

Have you watched Ready Player One? Thanks to Facebook’s recent announcement of their Metaverse push, it’s been hyped again. If it got you enthralled by the thought of a virtual reality world where opportunities to express your creativity (and even monetize them!) is limitless, this last one on our list should be the perfect game for you.

Decentraland is a Virtual Reality (VR) metaverse designed for users to create, explore and trade digital assets. Players explore and own LANDs to build incredible structures and create fascinating scenes and fun activities for other players to experience. Whether it be a medieval dungeon maze, an amusement park, a space adventure, or even an art gallery to display your actual NFT pieces, you are infinitely free to craft whatever comes to mind and generate fiat money out of them.

As of November 23, Decentraland announced on Twitter the most expensive purchase of a patch of virtual real estate on the platform yet. The buyer was the Metaverse Group, a subsidiary of Tokens.com, and they bought the plot for 618,000 MANA, which was around $2,428,740 at the time. In an interview, Tokens.com said that the land will be in the “Fashion Street” area of Decentraland’s map. It is going to be used to host virtual fashion events and even sell virtual clothing for avatars.

As of this writing, the market cap of the in-game currency, MANA, increased to 22.0%. You might want to invest soon before the line gets steeper. Overall, Decentraland is an absolutely brilliant investment, especially for open-world game fans out there.
