CyBall could be the next Axie Infinity — can it?
The NFT ball game Cyball was officially live on February 22, 2022, at 2.22 PM UTC, apparently matching the angel-number launch date with success. Soccer fans, card game enthusiasts, and NFT collectors have all been watching.
With 5,000 plus users on Day 1 and over 10,000 recorded matches within 24 hours, this is definitely a game for soccer and football fans to keep their eye on.
By February 27, Cyball has already welcomed 11,000+ users and held 150,000+ matches. It’s a fantastic feat within 5 days of launch.
It’s probably one of the reasons for the hype. Yes, people are saying CyBall could be the next Axie Infinity.
But first… soccer or football?
Before anything else, the curious question: is CyBall more like soccer or football?
Well, CyBall describes itself as a “football-themed” NFT game. But what kind of football? Its blog clarifies the answer for us: “CyBall is a football (US: soccer) themed, NFT-based game.”
How the CyBall gameplay looks
The CyBall world runs around the life of CyBlocs. CyBlocs, on the other hand, are the counterpart of Axies. They’re the characters. Basically, you purchase CyBlocs to play the game CyBall.
Matches are in 3v3 setup
Playing CyBall matches requires you to have at least 3 Cyblocs. Your opponent will have 3 Cyblocs, too, so you’re on a three-versus-three (3v3) soccer game.
You’ll experience “matchmaking” at the start of the game.
And just like soccer, there’ll be a first half and a second half. The first half includes Events 1, 2, and 3, while the second half, Events 4, 5, and 6.
Pick a strategy at the beginning of a set
One cool thing is that at the start of every half—that is, for Events 1 and 4—you can set a “Strategy” to use. (Oops, you don’t have this on Axie.)
When you play CyBall, you use cards to attack the opponent’s goal or defend yours.
Within 15 seconds, you need to pick one of the following 5 strategies:
- Ultra Offensive
- Offensive
- Balanced
- Defensive
- Ultra Defensive
It’s time to play!

CyBall could be the next Axie Infinity, they say
The Cyberpunk style of CyBlocs attracts many gamers out there. But, it may not exactly be the next Axie in terms of its nature.
CyBall is more reliant on Random Number Generators or RNGs. Meanwhile, Axie can dictate the flow of the game based on calculations. You can compute the damage to deal with your opponent.
As you might have seen from the gameplay tutorial video above, CyBall is on a card-game basis.
Hence, CyBall has a mix of Axie Infinity and some P2E (play-to-earn) simulation games such as Pegaxy and Cryptoblades.
For certain kinds of players, CyBall could feel less stressful. It has a somewhat more chill vibe. And that’s partly because you won’t get too many random experiences as you would in Axie.
While CyBall sets itself apart with key differences, it still has the potential to be the next Axie in terms of success and dominance among blockchain games. Just munch up the number of players already on the CyBall universe.
Start building your dream team of CyBlocs
Much lies in the power of your CyBlocs to win a CyBall match. That said, it’s in your best interest to choose ones that have the best traits, classes, and skills.
Classes are basically tiers of rarity. Your CyBloc can either be on Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, or Legendary level.
Meanwhile, all CyBlocs have 6 footballing skills. These are tackling, passing, dribbling, crossing, shooting, and physical abilities.
Of course, the more awesome your CyBlocs are, the better your chances of winning CyBall matches.
