Axie Infinity Shards (AXS)

Even if you’re new to crypto gaming, you must definitely have heard of Axie Infinity. This crypto metaverse game is rallying like crazy and might just be racking in a billion dollars in revenue. That’s how profitable this game has become.

Enjin

Enjin is a decentralized platform that allows users to create digital assets on Ethereum and incorporate them into games and apps. And the platform does this through the use of software development kits, called SDKs. 

The utility token of the Enjin platform is the Enjin coin. With this token, users will be able to store and manage their in-game assets as well as trade NFTs.

What the creators of The Sandbox are trying to do is create a decentralized platform for play-to-earn games where both gamers and creators can get rewarded. To facilitate transactions on the platform, the Sandbox makes use of a utility token, called SAND.

What makes The Sandbox truly stand out is the fact that it focuses primarily on user-generated content. This creates a metaverse where players are equally invested in growing the ecosystem and making it truly successful.

How might looming war declarations affect cryptocurrencies in the long term? What are the implications for newbie investors? Will this be the beginning of the end? 

Indeed, fear has gripped many crypto traders as Russia declared war on Ukraine, significantly affecting cryptocurrency markets. Prices of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many others plunged a few hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin made the declaration and launched full-scale attacks.

Luckily, many traders seemed to have shaken off the Russia-Ukraine crisis, and prices rose again later on Thursday, February 24.

Falling: Crypto Crashes in Russia-Ukraine War Declaration

Russia’s attack by land, air, and sea was the largest made by a European state against another since World War II. Fear looms that this might be the beginning of WW3, affecting the crypto economy significantly.

Amid the attacks, cryptocurrencies took a nosedive, falling as a whole at 7.97%, thereby erasing more than $150 billion in value within just 24 hours.

Bitcoin’s value fell below $35,000 early Thursday, losing almost half its November high of $68,990 due to these geopolitical tensions.

Other cryptocurrencies were also hit hard. Ethereum was down more than 12%, while dogecoin fell more than 14%.

In their fall, Bitcoin and other crypto behaved much like stocks. Market observers have therefore remarked that crypto isn’t quite like the safe haven it was painted to be, after all.

Senior market analyst Edward Moya said a lot of “crypto investors have been humbled by the last crash.”

Rising Again: Cryptocurrencies Get Back Up After Biden Presents New Sanctions Against Russia

US President Joe Biden said that the US will introduce a wave of severe sanctions against Russia. Such would limit Russia’s ability to do business in dollars, pounds, euros, and yen.

Bitcoin later rose to 1.7% higher, while Ether, to 0,2%, according to CoinMetrics.

How Might Crypto Investors Cope

Vikram Subburaj, CEO of Giottus Crypto Exchange, notes that the panic sell that came after the war declaration is an “expected reaction to any global crisis.”

He further suggests that long-term investors will likely take advantage of the crisis and buy crypto assets with solid fundamentals. These include Bitcoin and Ethereum.

On the other hand, the same long-term investors may do well to avoid high-risk cryptocurrencies such as meme coins.

Cousins Dogecoin and Shiba Inu, for example, have crashed down 20%, curbing a significant loss in their value.

Memecoins such as these two have been on a downward trend for a while now. So, it’s not yet clear if the current drop would only continue according to the Russia-Ukraine war, or if it will decline even more, soon.

Randi’s crypto song was cringe

At least, that’s how most of the Twitterverse reacted.

Thousands of retweets and quote tweets have gathered since Randi dropped her “WAGMI” song on March 1st. More and more comments have been coming.

Despite all the nasty comments, Randi’s NFT song was supposedly a proud celebration of the women of Web3.

She, along with a few women of NFT, introduced the most common acronyms in the blockchain space. Her objective: to welcome newcomers and give them insight into the metaverse, in verse.

A decade ago, I sang this song on Broadway. Today I sing this song, surrounded by new friends, as a rallying cry for the women of web3. Together, we can accomplish anything. And have fun doing it! #WAGMI

Also, the WAGMI parody song was set to the tune of Twisted Sister’s classic, “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” Randi’s parody says “We’re All Gonna Make It” instead. That’s a common slogan in Web3 communities, and it’s what #WAGMI stands for.

• BTD – Buy The Dip. Traders say this when suggesting to buy a specific cryptocurrency during a price dip.

• ATH – All-Time High. It refers to the highest value a crypto asset has ever achieved in a market or exchange.

• HODL – Hold On for Dear Life. Crypto enthusiasts say this as a mantra. It speaks of going long-term with cryptocurrency investing.

So what’s the big deal about the Randi Zuckerberg NFT song? 

Nothing much, really. The acronyms turn out to be helpful, after all.

But if you mean the cringeworthiness of the song, yes. It may indeed be distracting. Still, it’s not much of a big deal for anyone who doesn’t really care.

Now, what if someone could care? And of all people, what if it’s the band Twisted Singer? What if singer-songwriter Dee Snider has something to hum about it? Remember, Snider wrote the song “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” 

Apparently, the band’s lawyers are now working on their complaints concerning the fair use of their song.

At the moment, we don’t know how this would affect both parties, Randi and Twisted Singer. But, we do hope musicNFTs will soon solve music copyright dramas such as this for good.

Gamestop has the potential to generate more interest in games and NFTs than most other marketplaces that currently exist. As a bonus, they’re advertising no more gas fees when you transact through their NFT marketplace.

How is that possible? And what does it imply for first-time NFT buyers?

How Does the GameStop NFT Marketplace Work?

While the company is still developing its marketplace, the hints it has dropped so far reveal clues as to how the platform is going to work.

It might, for example, take advantage of the Loopring project. Loopring’s GitHub repository has an “NFT-DEV” branch with an amended code, making references to GameStop plus the use of the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS).

GameStop’s use of IPFS would just be fitting. The IPFS would provide a decentralized solution for storing and retrieving files, data, websites, and applications.

GameStop will explore the Ethereum blockchain

One intriguing feature of GameStop’s NFT Marketplace teaser page is its Ethereum smart contract address. The page doesn’t provide any other information about it, but it seems to confirm at least one thing. GameStop will explore opportunities in the Ethereum blockchain.

You could say it’s a logical move, given that famous marketplaces such as OpenSea are Ethereum-based.

GameStop NFT platform could be compatible with layer 2

This potential compatibility with Ethereum layer 2 products could also mean savings for users. Layer 2 solutions help reduce overall transaction costs, thus saving users from paying hefty fees for any network activity.

Loopring is one of those layer 2 solutions. If GameStop is indeed going to work with Loopring, or any other layer 2 solutions for that matter, then it would be good news to NFT enthusiasts.

Loopring, in particular, had announced in a LinkedIn post in October 2021 that they’d be enabling NFT support. This move would allow ”anyone to mint and trade NFTs instantly and gas-free.”

The same post also reveals that “this functionality is now the foundation of a new NFT marketplace launching soon.”

While we aren’t sure if that marketplace is actually GameStop, there’s a high chance that it is. Or, GameStop could also be partnering with other similar initiatives.

GameStop’s Call for NFT Creators Is Quite Inviting

The video game giant is ambitious enough to promise to give “power to the players,” “power to the creators,” and “power to the collectors.”

When you click on the “Let’s go” button, you’ll be asked to answer a few questions. The second one is quite interesting. It asks the curious creator about the best way to describe themself.

You either describe yourself as an “independent artist / creator / game dev / meme lord” or a “company / brand / game studio / IP holder.”

Apparently, this distinction tells us at least one thing. GameStop is interested in including both creative individuals and established game studios and companies in its platform.

Individuals—those who choose category A—will then be asked about their experience with creating NFTs or using the Ethereum wallet. The flow of questions reveals that GameStop is welcoming even aspiring NFT creators—artists, for example. They may not yet have prior experience with NFTs, but they could already be creating something worth putting out.

Meanwhile, those who identify with category B will be asked to provide a link to their website or tell GameStop what their organization is all about. They will also be invited to tell more about what they may have in mind while seeking to collaborate with the GameStop NFT Marketplace.

In both cases, it appears that GameStop is still open to many possibilities.

After successfully filling out the form, the interested creator will receive an email confirmation. Once again, GameStop will reiterate in the email that it’s opening up minting on a rolling basis.

GameStop May Take Time Before It Finally Launches Its NFT Marketplace

Damiana Amabile, Director of Product at GameStop, has also made several points on Twitter about how GameStop is going to position its NFT Marketplace among other options. In a Twitter thread in October 2021, Amabile shared how “not easy” it was to purchase an NFT via OpenSea.

Apparently, the director has prior experience with eCommerce. eComm today has conditioned ordinary buyers to be able to “single tap” and checkout on most online stores. And yet, the NFT UX space has yet to reach that level of simplicity. It appears that it’s one of GameStop’s goals; to ease the resistance of first-time NFT buyers when they try to do it in GameStop’s Marketplace.

Another point Amabile made is about “gas fees” and how it’s a foreign concept to a majority of the common people. “Gas fees” may correspond to “shipping fees” in eCommerce, but can cost 10x the price (of regular shipping fees). The director further notes how gas fees as high as ~$100 can turn off newcomers from following through with an NFT purchase.

With these potential customer objections in mind, GameStop might be on its way to bridging the gap between eCommerce and blockchain.

So all in all, the promise and potential are high. The same goes for expectations.

With NFT enthusiasts already hyped up about the GameStop NFT Marketplace launch, it may be better delayed than to be launched buggy and without fulfilling the promises.

But one thing’s been clear; the team behind this ambitious GameStop feat will do all they can to keep their hands busy this entire year of 2022.

With Metamask, you can send, receive, and store Eth-based cryptocurrencies and tokens.

In this article, we’ll show you how to set up a Metamask account for the first time.

Step 1. Install the Metamask extension on your browser.

One of the easiest ways to create a Metamask wallet is to use your favorite browser. You can install the Metamask browser extension on the most popular browsers such as Chrome and Firefox.

Metamask will update their download page to include links to extension installers for other browsers as well as for iOS and Android. Check if your browser is already supported here.

1. For Chrome users, installing MetaMask is as simple as clicking “Add to Chrome” on MetaMask’s Chrome web store page.

2. Click on “Add extension” to proceed with the installation.

3. In your Chrome Extensions list, you can choose to pin MetaMask.

When you do, Chrome will show Metamask’s fox-wolf-inspired icon among your list of pinned Chrome extensions.

Step 2. Create a Metamask account.

After installing Metamask, you will be redirected to the welcome page.

1. Click on “Get Started” to begin setting up your MetaMask account.

2. If you’re new to MetaMask—this article assumes you are—you’ll need to choose the “Yes, let’s get set up!” option on the right. 

3. Click on “Create a Wallet”

4. Click on “I Agree”

5. Create a password for your account.

The password needs to be at least 8 characters long. Click on the corresponding tickbox for the Terms of Use. Then, click the “Create” button.

6. Read and watch the preliminary instructions MetaMask has provided for new users for wallet safety.

The instructions are primarily for keeping your MetaMask wallet and funds safe. Watch the video to get an overview of your crypto wallet.

The video gives you information about your “Secret Recovery Phrase” and what it’s for. Hence, this Secret Recovery Phrase is like your master key. It’s a series of 12 words, and you’ll need it to recover your wallet and funds in case you lose access to it.

Anyone who knows your Secret Recovery Phrase can have all-in access to your MetaMask wallet and take all of your funds.

So, make sure to keep your recovery phrase very secret and very secure.

No one, not even a MetaMask team member, can help you recover your wallet or funds in case you forget your Secret Recovery Phrase.

Write it down somewhere safe, store it in a safety vault, or use a secure password manager.

Anyone asking you for your Secret Recovery Phrase is trying to scam you.

7. See and write down your Secret Recovery Phrase

Once you get this very important point, click on “Next” and on “CLICK HERE TO REVEAL SECRET WORDS” in the page that follows.

Follow the tips in the instructions MetaMask has provided. If you can, carefully store your 12-word recovery phrase in multiple secure locations.

Note: It’s important to write down or store your Secret Recovery Phrase in your password manager before you proceed to the next step.

8. Confirm that you know or have a copy of your Secret Recovery Phrase

Once you click “Next,” you’ll be directed to a page where you’ll be asked to confirm your Secret Recovery Phrase.

You’ll need to click on each word in sequence. Of course, I did not include the entire list of words I got in the screenshot. I also need to keep my 12-word recovery phrase secure.

Click on “Confirm” once you’re done.

9. You’ll receive MetaMask’s congratulatory message after passing the “test.” 

Metamask will remind you one more time to keep your Secret Recovery Phrase safe always.

Once you’ve made sure you’ve secured your MetaMask “master key,” you can proceed and click on “All Done.”

10. See “What’s new” on MetaMask.

The next thing you’ll see is the MetaMask interface. Initially, you might encounter a pop-up that informs you “What’s new” on Metamask.

You can ignore prompts such as these if they don’t require you to take any action. Don’t worry if you don’t understand anything at the moment. You’ll get all things cryptoverse by and by, especially if you read more from our blog.

For now, just click on the “x” at the top right corner of the “What’s new” pop-up to proceed to the next step.

Step 3. Deposit funds

MetaMask’s clean and clutter-free dashboard shows you the amount of ETH you have in your wallet.

Now that you’ve finally set up your MetaMask account, the next step is to make a deposit.

You can buy ETH directly from the MetaMask interface. Simply click on the “Buy” icon to do just that. A “Deposit Ether” pop-up will then appear.

You’ll have three options. You can:

1. Buy ETH with Wyre

This option is useful if you want to use a debit card to pay for your ETH.

Wyre shows you the current ETH exchange rate, transaction fee, and network fee. You can choose your local currency or the currency your debit card uses. As of this writing, Wyre supports about 20+ currencies.

Note that there’s a minimum transaction amount of 0.000025 ETH. 

The following shows a sample total transaction amount once you cross the minimum threshold.

Click on “Next” to enter your payment information.

2. Buy ETH with Transak.

This choice allows you to buy ETH via bank transfer aside from using debit cards. It supports bank transfers from 59+ countries. The ETH you buy goes straight to your MetaMask account.

Transak has slightly higher fees than Wyre. Transak also deducts the fees from the money you intend to shell out from your Visa or Mastercard account. To compare, Wyre calculates the fees after you indicate how much USD (for example) you intend to convert to ETH.

3. Directly deposit ETH you already have.

It’s the most direct way to add Ether into your Metamask wallet. You have the choice to use Etherscan to proceed or to export your private key.

This third option is more advanced. We will dive deeper into this in future articles here in the NFT Game Info blog.

Congratulations, you now have MetaMask!

Setting up your MetaMask wallet is pretty straightforward. Once funded, you can use this wallet to initiate ETH-based transactions.

What MetaMask is for

With MetaMask, you can buy, store, send, and swap ETH with other tokens. It’s a convenient place to manage your digital assets.

The “Swap” option allows you to exchange your ETH with 0XBTC, for example.

Of course, you’ll need enough ETH in your wallet to push the actual swap through.

Personalized settings for your MetaMask account

You can make tweaks to your MetaMask setup on the Settings page.

To access Settings, click on your profile icon in the top right corner of the MetaMask dashboard. Click on “Settings.”

In the “General” Settings, you can set up default currencies for conversion. You also have the option to choose between ETH and Fiat for default values to display.

In the “Advanced” Settings, you’ll find the option to sync accounts and data with your MetaMask mobile device app. 

As of this writing, the option to sync via the browser extension is disabled. You can, however, sync with mobile instead.

Or, if you first set up MetaMask via a browser extension, you may do so via mobile setup.

Setting up MetaMask on iOS

Once you’ve set up Metamask via your browser extension, it’s going to be fairly easy to set it up on your mobile device.

1. Download MetaMask from the App Store.

2. Open MetaMask.

3. Choose the “Import with Secret Recovery Phrase” option instead of the “Create a new wallet” option.

4. Input your 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase with spaces.

5. Create a new password and retype it in the “Confirm password” box.

6. If available, you can enable the option to allow MetaMask to use Face ID for your logins.

7. Click on the “IMPORT” button.

Now you’re good to go!

Setting up MetaMask on Android

MetaMask is also fairly easy to install and set up on Android once you’ve done it initially on your Chrome browser.

1. Go to Google PlayStore and download MetaMask.

2. Open the MetaMask Android app.

3. Choose the “Import with Secret Recovery Phrase” option instead of the “Create a new wallet” option.

(Apparently, Android is more strict when it comes to screenshots in some parts of the setup process.)

4. Input your 12-word Secret Recovery Phrase with spaces.

5. Create a new password and retype it in the “Confirm password” box. You can use the same password you used in your iOS device—in case you use both.

6.  If available, you can enable the option to allow MetaMask to use biometrics such as finger authentication for your logins.

7. Click on the “IMPORT” button.

You can manage your account on Android, too!

MetaMask makes ETH-based transactions smooth

If spending hours on the internet—liking and sharing memes—is your daily cup of tea, you should be familiar with “Side-eyeing Chloe.” As of September 25, 2021, at 5:02 am, this meme was sold as an NFT for 25 Ether. At that time, it was converted to a whopping $108,982.50! Unbelievable, right? That’s just the latest meme-turned-NFT that was sold this year. Owners of many other viral memes have been making bank since the onset of the NFT frenzy.

You probably even heard of the “Doge” meme, an image of an excited Shiba Inu named Kabosu. As of October 2021, it is still officially the most expensive meme NFT—sold at a jaw-dropping $4 million! And just recently, its value surged 55x after being split into 17 billion pieces. That makes its total market price equivalent to $220 million.

Memes aside, what about the “most valuable NFT” itself? Ever heard of “Everydays: The First 5000 Days”? If not, well, here’s the catch: it was sold for $69.3 Million at a Christie’s digital art auction. The owner of this NFT is the digital artist Mike “Beeple” Winkelmann, who pieced together a collage of more than 5000 artworks he created for 13 years. It’s the famous auction house’s very first digital art sale.

What about Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s first published tweet? Sounds absurd, but it was sold for $3.8 million.

Short clips of big sports moments, too, that could sell for up to $200,000. And so many others.

So, what are NFTs?

NFTs or Non-Fungible Tokens represent any type of virtual files or collectibles that are “non-fungible.” This means that you cannot replace nor trade them for any other item. This is because each NFT has a unique code that is recorded in the blockchain. This publicly shared ledger tracks every transaction that occurs.

In other words, two different NFTs cannot be interchanged, even if they look identical. You can trade Bitcoin with other currencies, but that’s impossible with NFTs. They’re like the elite’s fine art pieces, except they don’t have a tangible form and are more accessible to common folks.

Speaking of art pieces, since they’re entirely digital, you can’t put them up in your living room like a Van Gogh painting. All you get is the so-called “bragging rights” for being the rightful owner of the artwork itself.

The code—or in metaphorical terms, the essence—of the NFT you purchase is passed on to you by the creator. The blockchain verifies and records this “transfer of rights” into part of the code itself. After which, the NFT is all yours. You can create copies or reproduce any virtual item yourself, but its NFT will always be the original, definitive version.

A more apparent reason people invest in NFTs is the assumption that these will appreciate over time or become more valuable in the future. In short, their growth potential. This is why droves of people, from rich businessmen and Hollywood A-Listers to ordinary people are currently investing in NFTs.

As of the third quarter of 2021, the NFT trading volume has reached $10.67 billion, an increase of 704% from the previous quarter. Crazy, right? And it’s only snowballing so far.

How do you trade NFTs?

These digital assets mostly sit in the Ethereum blockchain, and you can purchase them with ETH. You can visit crypto marketplaces such as Coinbase to buy ETH. After purchasing ETH, you’ll need a wallet to store it in. We suggest a non-custodial wallet such as Metamask. Still, it always depends on what type of cryptocurrency or NFT you’re opting for. You can then transfer your ETH coins to your wallet from Coinbase (or other). Now, you’re in full control of your Ethereum.

It’s worth noting here that there are other blockchains that are forging ahead with NFTs in addition to Ethereum.
